Important information during initial start-up

Laddomat 21 is supplied with thermostat no. 1456 which opens upon reaching 78 °C.

  • Thermostat no. 8719 opens at 72 °C and is also part of the supply.
  • The thermostat which opens at 78 °C has proven to be the best in the majority of installations. In boilers with high output/small water volume and in systems with long piping/thin pipes, the thermostat which opens at 72 °C may be a better choice.
  • Higher loading temperature yields more accumulated heat. Apart from this; with the 78 °C thermostat the losses after fuel burnout will be smaller because the connection boiler-storage reservoir will be interrupted sooner than with the 72 °C thermostat.
  • In all new systems the water contains a different amount of air bubbles.
  • After the heating up of water this air is released onto the walls of the boiler. The more the boiler heats up, the more air bubbles will be released.
  • If this released air accumulates in the circulation pump, it may cause a shutdown of the circulation. At lower temperatures, the air is released more slowly and manages to be carried away by expansion or by possible de-aeration.
  • If a lot of air is released inside the system, turn on the boiler with the 72 °C thermostat. In extreme cases, it is suitable to heat the boiler up several times without any thermostat, until the water is air free. Demount the spring, piston and thermostat and with the top stop valve closed, heat the heating system.
  • Further, once the water has been heated several times to 85-95 °C and freed of air, you may install the appropriate thermostat.
  • Should any operation faults occur even due to these preventive measures, you should check whether some oakum or other debris is present inside the pump or elsewhere which may be causing the circulation failure. Also, check that the whole system is connected and mounted correctly according to the documentation.

Instructions for replacement of the thermostat in Laddomat 21

Thermostat

  • Check that the circulation pump is turned off.
  • Close the three stop valves.
  • Unscrew the lid above the pump.
  • Remove the Laddomat 21 lid with the spring, piston and thermostat.
  • An O-ring holds the thermostat in place.
  • The thermostat is easily pushed out from the piston.
  • Press a new thermostat into the piston.
  • Remount the piston with the thermostat in place along with the lid and spring.
  • Open the stop valves.
  • Wait a few minutes before turning on the pump so that any air will have time to be released from the system.
  • The system is ready for use.

Dimensioning

In a boiler with an output of up to 35 kW, the diameter of the circulation pipe loop in the top part of the boiler (ascending pipe) - Laddomat 21 - lower part of the boiler (reverse) should be minimally R25 or cu28.
In boilers with an output of 35-60 kW, R32, cu35 or bigger is used.
Over 60-80 kW, an R40 or cu42 is used.

In case of special requirements for self-gravity circulation, the diameter of pipes should be planned according to these requirements.

Inserted Thermostat

The inserted thermostat acts as a spare part and it is necessary to replace it when it has been continuously exposed to high temperatures around or above boiling point.

The part number is shown on each individual part.

Number Opening temperature
8719* 72 °C is used during the initial start-up and in high output boilers.
1456* 78 °C is used for normal operation.
1467 83°C
8222 87°C

* Is part of the normal supply.

Servicing

When in need of servicing, the three stop valves should be closed in such a way that the slot for a screwdriver is turned perpendicularly to the pipe. This allows access to the circulation pump, thermal valve and the back valve for servicing needs.

When a fault occurs and aeration of the system is excluded, it is possible that some part may contain debris such as oakum, sealing tape, thread shavings, etc.

Disassemble and clean.

During reassembly, clean all sealing and jointing parts.

1. Thermal valve
2. Back valve for self gravity circulation
3. Blade wheel in the pump

Some systems can be found to contain an extremely large amount of debris which may cause sediments to form in the pump and its subsequent loss of function.

The loss of function can be prevented by disassembly of the rotor and cleaning of the pump according to the manufacturers instructions.

Radiator System

For maximum utilization of accumulative capacity it is important that the radiator system be equipped with:

1. Automatic mixing regulation
2. Thermostatic valves with changeable orifice gauge which can be set according to the size of the radiators

Both solutions lead to a decrease in flow and a decrease in temperature of the reverse loop from the radiators.
Thus the accumulated heat will last in the storage reservoir.
